A lovely little winter deciduous shrublet looking not unlike a Catmint, forming a low mat of soft, sage green leaves. The clusters of bright primrose, tubular, lipped flowers though are far showier than anything a Nepeta could muster.
For well drained soil and plenty of sun where it enjoy dry conditions but not too much drought.
An excellent alternate season companion for small winter bulbs like Oxalis massoniana.
A clumping, winter dormant perennial grown for it's highly ornamental, pale yellow, green edged, rubbery leaves, which surround the thick, succulent, erect stems, and it's dome-like heads of densely packed, star shaped, pale pink flowers which it bears in autumn. A tough, hardy plant for any reasonably sunny, well drained position.
Excellent in pots, it handles the confined rootspace well and isn't demanding on water.
Cut back to ground level in winter.
The stems can be pruned back in late spring to make the plant more campact and to delay flowering.
A clump forming, deciduous shrub. A fantastic foliage plant, the lance shaped leaves start a coppery pink, then turn bright yellow and gradually fade to green. In Summer bunches of small, deep pink flowers are produced. Ideal for borders or anywhere a hilight of colour is needed. Easily grown in any well drained soil. Cut back as necessary.
The large mounds of steely blue, fern-like foliage, of this clump forming, winter dormant perennial, are an exceptional foil for bold flowers such as Hemerocallis, Canna and Kniphofia, and are the perfect companion for the purple leaves of Eucomis ‘Oakhurst‘ and Clematis recta ‘Purpurea’.
Luscious, fat shoots of purple tinted new leaves in spring and explosions of sulphur yellow flowers in mid summer, make this North African native yet more garden worthy.
