A choice cultivar grown as much for the clumps of deeply channelled, linear, citron coloured foliage as the satiny, three petalled, royal purple flowers that sit upon it. The perfect companion for modern brightly coloured Heuchera, in regions where they grow well, for maximum foliage fantasy.
Needs protection from heat and exposure to look its best but is easily grown in any reasonably drained soil or in a pot capable of housing its large fleshy root system.
Soundly perennial and winter dormant.
Simply sumptuous chartreuse leaves on a quick growing deciduous shrub, a little wayward of growth which adds to the appeal, as too do the clusters of trumpet shaped, bright pink flowers that are borne in spring. The foliage is a little sun tender so light shade is recommended in all but the coolest regions but it is otherwise easy of culture with protection and adequate summer moisture.
Undoubtedly one of the very best foliage shrubs for shade, a splendid companion for Rhododendron though they tend to look a little sombre in comparison.
