A hardy, quick growing, evergreen, butterfly attracting shrub, with pairs of white backed, lance shaped leaves clothing the woody stems. Dense, conical sprays of small, tubular, four petalled flowers of an unusual wine red shade.

Trim lightly after each flush of flowers or it can be pruned back to ground level while in active growth to encourage vigorous new basal shoots.

As close to red as a Buddleja gets. One of my favourites.

A sprawling shrub from southern Asia with deeply dissected, palmate leaves that take on red tints during winter when the velvety, dark throated, deep wine, hibiscus flowers appear. Delicious!
Each flower shrivels by afternoon but this is of little concern as there are typically an abundance to take its place next day. More important are the seed pods covered in irritant hairs and best handled only with gloves.

Requires regular summer water and is sensitive to heavy frosts, shortcomings easily overlooked once seen in bloom and in light of its valuable flowering period.

Prune only to active new basal growth when the weather is congenially warm.

A West Australian cultivar exemplary for its tall stature, vigour and propensity for flowering. Many, large, soft burgundy flowers are held aloft on well branched stems that under ideal conditions may exceed 150cm in height. A densely clumping garden stalwart.

For well drained very sunny soil. Summer irrigation is unnecessary. Do not mulch.
